How to Grow a Garden
by Andrew Rexford
Find a seed that works for your environment.
Sometimes you’ll plant a seed
and it will never take,
because it’s not a fit for the environment.
That’s okay.
Once you find a seed that does fit,
you can plant it,
if you like it.
Then you water it.
It takes time for the roots to take hold,
and even longer to see a stem sprout.
Be careful not to over water, or it will die
and you will have to start with a new seed.
Be careful not to under water it,
Or it will wilt away.
Be careful not to under fertilize it,
and be careful not to over fertilize it.
Be careful it’s kept
at a comfortable temperature at all times.
Make sure it has enough sunlight,
but not too much.
No matter how hard you try,
something will go wrong
with your first few seeds, sprouts, and plants.
If this happens, work on the soil,
and when you’re ready,
start again.
After a plant has sprouted
and taken hold,
enjoy the beauty of it.
But don’t forget to water it.
Not too much,
Or no matter how big the plant is, it will drown.
Not too little, or it will dry.
Mist it every 3 days.
Change the soil every year.
Try new fertilizers every year.
Repeat.

The “garden” is a metaphor for a healthy relationship.
